YATSIs 1s joint meeting

FIRST COHORT - NEW MEMBERS 2023

The Young Academy of Technology, Science and Innovation welcomes its inaugural cohort of new members, all of whom are excellent young researchers and STEM professionals within the eco-system of Danish technical research.

When the new Young Academy and Technology, Science and Innovation (YATSI) was founded in the spring of 2023, the organisation’s first act was to open for applicants. There were many fine applications, but only 16 were selected for the first cohort of members of the new academy. Selected from a highly competitive pool of candidates, the new members from both academia and industry demonstrate remarkable achievements, quality of research and dedication to their respective fields spanning a wide range of STEM-disciplines. As the first cohort they will be taking on a crucial role in setting the direction for YATSI and creating the foundation for strategic activities and impact of the academy.

After a long and tough process of assessing candidates for YATSI, I find it really rewarding that we have composed such a diverse cohort of competent men and women from both academia and industry. I believe that YATSI now has the foundation in its members to become a success!
Andreas Hougaard Laustsen-Kiel, co-founder of YATSI

At an early stage of their careers the selected members have already proved their worth in science and STEM research. The group is broadly composed in terms of representing both industry and academia, having an acceptable gender balance and geographical composition. The members also represent a broad range of the STEM spectrum concerning their educational and professional backgrounds.

As a young bioentrepreneur I have experienced first-hand how bringing together people from different fields, and collaborating with researchers across academia and industry, are key to leveraging innovation. YATSI will, no doubt, be able to achieve great things. Bringing together such an exciting group of young researchers and STEM professionals, giving us all a voice, will make a real difference.
Sandra Wingaard Thrane, co-founder of YATSI

This is promising for developing synergy in YATSI, which aims, among other things, to strengthen the linkage and the exchange between academia and industry, to strengthen the young researchers’ network and give a stronger voice to young researchers and STEM professionals –  in Denmark and internationally. YATSI’s raison d’être is precisely the international perspective, and therefore the organisation will have English as working language since YATSI is also for international young researchers working in Denmark.

The first assembly will be in September

YATSI will be the world’s first young academy for technical sciences when the academy gathers in September for YATSI’s first meeting. Here, the new members will decide on which themes YATSI will take on for a start, as well as which working groups to set up.

I really look forward to getting to know the newly elected members, who will shape YATSI as it takes form over the following years. Having a strong network with like-minded, young scientists has been essential for my own career so far, and I am excited that YATSI can now become a meeting place for some of the strongest researchers from both academy and industry.
Kirsten Marie Ørnsbjerg Jensen, co-founder of YATSI

The new members commit themselves to devote time and effort to the work of the academy both through participation in four annual meetings as well as in  committee work in between meetings.

We’re buzzing to be welcoming the first cohort of members to the new academy. In line with the core ideas of YATSI, this inaugural group of talented young scientists and entrepreneurs from across the STEM areas will help pave the path forward by working to strengthen applied science and build new and lasting bridges between academia and industry.
Janus Juul Eriksen, co-founder of YATSI
